AstraZeneca vaccine for people over 55 years of age. France, Germany, Sweden, Italy, Greece, Portugal or Belgium have already lifted the veto.

The Public Health Commission will decide this Thursday, after meeting and listening to the experts from the vaccination presentation, whether to review the decision not to administer the AstraZeneca vaccine to those over 55 years of age.

In the light of the latest scientific evidence, especially the study published by the British health system, it could be authorized up to 65 years of age, as the representatives of Catalonia and Madrid have repeatedly claimed . The Minister of Health, Carolina Darias , has not spoken, but everything indicates that the decision will be positive.

France , Germany, Sweden , Italy, Greece, Portugal, Belgium or Andorra are some of the European countries that in recent weeks have lifted the veto on this vaccine for the elderly, after recent studies that support its effectiveness. The World Health Organization ( WHO ) also recommends using it for people over 65 years of age.

Catalonia has been demanding for days that the use of the AstraZeneca vaccine be authorized for people over 55 years of age. This Wednesday, Salut increased the pressure by issuing a warning to Health: “Either act or we will act.” Andalusia or the Balearic Islands are other communities that have asked to be able to administer the injectable to people over 55.

Spanish doctors and scientists have also called on the committee that sets the criteria for the immunization campaign to review its current limit of 55 years. It is, in the opinion of the experts, a measure that is easy to adopt and that will accelerate the rate of vaccination in Spain .
